Tim Pope at Wembley, will meet with Robert

From Time Pope's website:
"As if this week wasn’t already busy enough, while I was in Rome I got an e-mail from Robert Smith for The Cure’s Wembley show, saying he’d put me down for three tickets. I had to go, despite being knackered. The show was bloody excellent. The keyboards were gone and a lot of stuff was played by Porl on guitar, which gave the songs a whole new feel. It was as if they were written only the day before and had lost that Eighties twang (for which we all get accused). Call me an ‘anorak’ but I counted amongst their excellent set 18 videos on the old Pope walking stick. 18 videos is more videos than most people have probably done these days. Anyway, I shall be meeting up with Bob socially, or for a curry, in the next week or so, at a secret location in the UK. They’ve just recorded a whole new album, which after the show I am very keen to hear… Should be an interesting meeting!"
(Thanks Sarah)

  2. Very exciting. Maybe they'll film a music video or a concert. Just nice to read, in any case.

  6. No, he doesn't say he's heard the new album. He's saying that after seeing the London show, he's excited about the new album.

  7. What new album? Let's face it, this album isn't coming out any time soon. It's almost April and the American tour is beginning soon. I love Robert but sheesh, he gives procrastination a whole new name.

  8. Actually if you re-read it, he says he is going to listen to the album after the show, and in the recent interview with Porl whilst they were on tour they said they were trying to work out the tracklisting etc, so there is an album, it just needs some piecing together.

Meanwhile millions starve all over the globe......

  9. No, he doesn't. Why is this so hard to understand? He says they have a new album, and after seeing the London show, which he really enjoyed, he's looking forward to hearing it.
Just one reason why he expects the meeting with Robert to be "interesting" (probably expects Robert will play it for him).

Here, let me try something. Let's say I'm a Batman fan and just got back from a theatre that was showing the trailer for the new film and I thought it was great.

"They've just filmed a new Batman movie, which after the trailer I am very keen to see."

Am I seeing the new movie right after seeing the trailer? No, the trailer has made me excited to see it.
Tim is saying what he heard at the London show has made him "very keen" to hear the new album most likely when he meets with Robert.

But if you need to believe he heard it after the show, Alastair, go right ahead. Probably just me being negative, right?

  10. Yes true the wording could taken both ways, but you are right, he is keen to hear after seeing them perform, I presume as they are old collaborators that Robert would likely give him a preview? but who knows.

I dont want to get into any arguments about it.

Regardless of the delays I am keen as ever to see what the band has to offer, good, blah? we will see eventually......we hope : )

  11. I think for Robert to invite Tim in the first place, Robert wants to discuss the new songs with Tim, possibly for ideas on a new film clip or clips!
    Yeah!!!

  12. At the risk of sounding sycophantic, I don't think there's really any other way to interpret Tim's words other than Craig's interpretation. :) Not that I want to rekindle the debate, but just felt like chiming in on that one. :)

  13. Ditto. Besides, there'd have to actually BE an album in order for Tim to have listened to it. He may be in for a disappointment when they meet up for curry. At best he will get a tape of instrumentals and a plea from Robert to help him with his writer's block.

  14. I was being extremely hopeful that perhaps the album would be available in some form when they did meet up...but who knows, I am trying to look for the silver lining in the clouds....call me overly positive if you will : )

In reference to Craigs overly sarcastic response to my comments, I mistakenly commented on their official site that I felt he was overly negative, but I apologised, twice now I believe, but he obviously douts my sincerity? who knows?
