  1. I spy Club America!

*drools all over self forming big puddles of sticky saliva*

  2. gross! why is Club America on there?! Wouldn't that be something though if they played WANT or THE HOLY HOUR!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Only one song of The Top, 'Shake Dog Shake' the same song they have been playing for 11 years now.

Would be nice to see any of these songs return:

    Piggy in the Mirror
    Bananfishbones
    Caterpillar
    Give Me It
    Wailing Wall
    The Top

What is the aversion to this album that Robert has? I don't get it. Especially with Porl back in the band.

I really hope we see more of these songs from that list in the rotation, although 'Club America'? That is the biggest WTF on the list.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Wild Mood Swing does have some really good songs on it.... but club america, i can't even make it thru that track

    ReplyDelete
  5. i would LOVE to hear piggy in the mirror. i was lucky enough to hear that at the 96 irvine soundcheck. sounded awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  6. and ya know, i was thinking: why the hell don't they do the awesome setlists they do for mexico? mexico always gets the best sets. i know they are unfathomably famous there and all, but what the hell! mexico deserves good setlists, but so does europe and the us.

    :-(

    ReplyDelete
  7. interesting to see Same Deep Water in there. will be interesting to hear without keyboards, unless that is one that Bob is waiting to break out his keytar on, along with Charlotte Sometimes. And looks like Boy I Never Knew might be on the album after all, since all 13 new songs are there. would be nice to see the set mixed up a bit more with some of those ones they haven't hit yet (except the execrable Club America).

    ReplyDelete
  8. I almost feel guilty looking at this, I'm sure Robert likes to keep this stuff a surprise.

    ReplyDelete
  9. looks like you're

    w
    a
    a
    a
    a
    y

in the minority on club america, clockster.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Add me to the Club America hate club. Terrible song.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well jpx, I'm sure Robert could surprise still... I remember one show in Europe didn't he come by himself and play 17 seconds ?

Either way, doesn't seem like they are really changing things up the US much...

    ReplyDelete
  12. I believe that my intial reaction was, "Yes!", followed by, "Oh, baby!", once I saw the songs on the list. I think there's at least half of the songs that I'd want to see show up on this tour.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I want to know where this Club America is so i can burn it down

    ReplyDelete
  14. maybe this is just a decoy master list! maybe the real one is hidden from us!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Corrosive - did you get my e-mail about The Promise?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Now if only someone could steal the new album...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Clockwise, I saw in another post that you like Ministry. Do you like Skinny Puppy, Frontline Assembly, or Front 242?

    ReplyDelete
  18. oh.. just now i got it, thanks craig! and the answer is yes

    ReplyDelete
  19. jpx, i agree :x i wish i hadn't looked at that...

club america blows. jupiter crash please!

    ReplyDelete
  20. also BARE from Wild Mood Swings is very good.... it's long and not very climatic but still so good some how.

    ReplyDelete
  21. MOST of WMS RULZ. The songs are rad, but I think it's the STYLES of the songs that most people object to. They just aren't into jazzy funky swingy R&B Cure. I know, I know... ya'll like Lovecats and The Top stuff, but as I recall, a lot of peeps didn't like The Top when it came out, and I think WMS suffers from that same fate. I agree WMS is a bit out there and goofy, but that's why I loves me it!

And I don't care if NO ONE else likes Club America, because I'm better than each and every one of you, and that's a FACT.

    Bring on DA CLUB!

    ReplyDelete
  22. clockwise, they are also BIG here in southamerica but just came once and only to a few cities.
Disadvantages of living in a third world country. I guess.
btw, you keep me laughing and i dont think we know each other

    ReplyDelete
  23. i like me some wms. it's vastly superior to the self titled album and in many ways better than BF. but there are some howlers on wms as well. club america, this is a lie, gone, numb, return...all shit, in my opinion. add the b-sides and take those out and you've got a great album. alas...

    ReplyDelete
  24. aburgac, glad that **someone** likes my inane nymphomaniac fangirlish ebullience!

which third world south american country do you hail from? i am dying to visit south am - only been to mexico and costa rica. am DYING to see ALL of south am, esp guat, peru, chile, argentina. we may be going to peru next summer! :-D

    ReplyDelete
  25. this is a lie is lame lame lame. nearly inane lyrics about monogamy set to an overbearing string arrangement. get me the fuck out of here!

    ReplyDelete
  26. No, you mustn't diss Numb!...!

    ReplyDelete
  27. *abruptly turns back to monkeybutt, arms crossed, face twisted into sullen grimace*

    hmf!

    ReplyDelete
  28. "Club America", simply put, is the worst song The Cure ever committed to tape. Listen to the backup vocals and throw up a little in your mouth and then you understand with perfect clarity. It should have been canned, left on the floor, burned, expunged, forgotten.

    (along with "Wrong Number")

    ReplyDelete
  29. ignoring me doesn't make this is a lie suck any less...

    :P

    ReplyDelete
  30. Todd you are right, NUMB alone is worth buying the album Wild Mood Swings

    ReplyDelete
  31. nothing in this world is worse than numb. nothing. the cure's worst song ever.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Heroin Face is the worst Cure song ever, Sofia!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Heroin Face is the worst Cure song ever, Sofia!

    ReplyDelete
  34. No, Club America takes the cake on worst cure song, hands down. I say we have a poll

    ReplyDelete
  35. clockwise, i'm from peru, you should come! i'm proud to say that we have a really beautiful country, with lots of things to see. And hopefully Robert & co. will think the same and come at the end of the year, fingers crossed!

    ReplyDelete
  36. *is feeling suicidal after reading all the club america bashing*

okay, fine, numb is iffy. i grew to love it despite its goofiness.

and i can even sorta understand some of the hostility toward club america, in all honesty. but it's so dorky that it works! the lou reedy/loungey monotone vocals, the heavy rock and roll vibe, the sexy lyrics...

    ya'll suck!

ooh, 100 years just came on my CD player!

    ReplyDelete
  37. i'm willing to box any of you over this.
    a) supposedly about kurt cobain. whatever.
    b) the lyrics? the most insipid crap of all time. the last lines? "just keeps loving the drug
    the drug that he's become
    he isn't really here anymore...

    and that makes me cry"

    it's one big DUH.

    ReplyDelete
  38. ps i love heroin face too

    *blushes*

    ReplyDelete
  39. my least favorite cure song is 'never.' it doesn't even sound like the cure. it's like a faceless buttrock college band that somehow got its song put on the self titled release as a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  40. i like what i see!!! i bet they play same deep water at the hollywood bowl!! i know that show along with the shrine will get something really special.

oh and wms rocks!! want, jupiter, bare, are excellent

    ReplyDelete
  41. babyjess, i hope you're right about same deep water, since i'll be at that show...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Awww! So many great fracking songs! To Wish Impossible Things, The Drowning Man, THE BIG HAND, The Figurehead, Charlotte Sometimes, Three Imaginary Boys, How Beautiful You Are, Want, Catch, A Letter to Elise!

I'd have much preferred hearing these to Lullaby (I haven't enjoyed that song on album or from live recordings for years!), Let's Go to Bed, The Walk, Lovecats, Wrong Number, Never Enough, Inbetween Days, Just Like Heaven, Push, and A Forest, which I did hear.

At least I got End, At Night, M, Shake Dog Shake, One Hundred Years, Disintegration, etc.

Still they should get rid of the aforementioned songs or at least get rid of them more often. What do I care, though, their tour of my cities is done.

How good are the odds the band will tour North America again when the second new album comes out? Hmmm..

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree, Millertime. I only heard The Top in a CD store for the first time on vacation in 2003, and was blown away by "Shake Dog Shake". When I finally got the album in 2006, it was quite neat. Give Me It, Piggy in the Mirror, The Caterpillar (which I've always loved, of course), and Bananafishbones are quite good.

    ReplyDelete

    Round Round Round *
    More Than This

I am not looking forward to Freakshow at the SLC show, but what can you do?

    ReplyDelete
  45. No Piggy in the Mirror
    No Like Cockatoos
    No Jupiter Crash

What's up with that? I do like that How Beautiful You Are, Kyoto Song and Doing the Unstuck are on the list.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yeah but joefrog they probably won't pull out any of those songs.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I also forgot to mention the awfulness that is "Why Can't I Be You?" I don't think I've ever liked that song past the first few months after I bought "Kiss Me" in the mid-90s. Hate it, though the guitar is a bit catchy.

In contrast, "Close To Me" (single version) is one of my favorite Cure songs of all, but all the subtlties and textures, added instruments and Robert's rapid background breathing aren't there for the live version, making it quite boring.

    ReplyDelete
  48. cc, would it make you feel better if i noted that i really like 'round and round and round' ?

    ReplyDelete
  49. What is Heorin Face from, I've only got a live version included on one of the deluxe editions, was it a b-side to something 'cause I wanna get the studio version, if one exists. Maybe someone can help me out.
    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  50. if the list would of had SNAKEPIT i would off yell in exictment.

oh monkeybutt, you bet were going to hear an awsome show. especially since their be playing on simons b-day the day of the shrine show.

    my dream setlist would contain

    other voices
    same deep water
    faith
    a letter to elise
    to wish impossible
    catch
    kyoto song
    shive and shake
    end
    siamese twins

im sure we get to hear this songs especially for those attending more than 1 show. 4 out of 5 for me.

oh, does anybody really like wrong number?? i could do without hearing it. off course if they do then i guess it would be a good time for a bathroom break. :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. no studio version i know of for heroin face. there's only that poor quality live version from the rocket that was originally on the curiosity cassette...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Why do you people keep slamming Wrong Number? I think that the current live versions highlight Porl's guitar work splendidly, and when they first started playing it, it also showed off what a great guitarist Reeves Gabrels is.

    ReplyDelete
  53. yep. i first heard it on my concert and curiosity cassette.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I love "Why Can't I be You?" Monkey, I also like 'round and round and round'. At the risk of being unpopular, I have no problem with Club America (hides under his sheets). Can't stand New Day.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Another vote for "Never" being the worst Cure song...EVER. It's called "never" as in they should've never written that song.

And since we're talking WMS, I gotta express some love for Trap.

    ReplyDelete
  56. todd, I agree, Never sucks. It's the worst song on the self-titled album, with Us or Them following closely behind, and that's tied with alt.end.

Oh, and muldfeld, have you heard any of the live versions of WCIBY where they extend it and start mixing in other songs?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hello all-

Long time lurker...first post to the blog. Since we are all discussing what we want to hear/like and dislike, I'll throw in my picks-

    10 Favorite Cure songs:

    Happy The Man
    A Forest/Forever (live)
    Lament
    This Twilight Garden
The Same Deep Water As You
    Wailing Wall
    Open (Trip Mix)
    Pornography
    The Snakepit
    Charlotte Sometimes

    Least Favorite-

Just Say Yes (Just Say Awful!)
    Adonais (does nothing for me)
    Numb
    There Is No If...
Never (The worst Cure song - ever)
    Dredd Song (dreadful indeed)
    Do The Hansa
    Object
    A Man Inside My Mouth
    Just Like Heaven (Dizzy Mix)

    ReplyDelete
  58. hi mikey- welcome.

do you mean the high trip mix, or the open fix mix?

    ReplyDelete
  59. mikey, welcome on board! That mix of Open is the Fix Mix. The Trip Mix is a version of High.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hi, first post.
I'm a bit, for want of a better word, disappointed that Australia was so early on in the tour looking at that master list.
    :]

    ReplyDelete
  61. Monkey/Shawn-

Hello! My bad...yes the Fix Mix...I like how it starts with "We're gonna record this..."

    ReplyDelete
  62. Out of This World! Bloodflowers! Want! Charlotte Sometimes! Same Deep Water As You! (So Robert was serious when he mentioned finding a key-tar?)

I'm sincerely hoping they'll consider doing another tour (they need to come back to ASIA) after the new album is released, though it's highly unlikely.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I agree to you, Jenny. They must come back to Asia with the new songs! I've been missing them since last summer.

    ReplyDelete
  64. >Yeah but joefrog they probably >won't pull out any of those songs.

They played both Kyoto Song and How Beautiful You Are in Philadelphia. A great show.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Me too, Junko! You saw them in Fuji, right? The setlist we got back then was great, but we need to hear the new songs! And there are so many other old songs I want to hear.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think they should come back to Australasia to promote the new album!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I live in Sydney, does anyone think they'd come back next year?

    ReplyDelete
  68. i want to make clear that i am totally not a wms hater. i just despise 5 out of the 14 album tracks. and really dislike 2.
all the b-sides were fucking terrific though! and the songs that were good were REALLY good.

i can maybe listen to 2 songs on bloodflowers and 2 on s/t. i will not be bludgeoned by any of you for this.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Someone is complainig about what Mexico´s always get the best setlist.

I live in Mexico City and the only things i can say about it is:

1)The first Cure concert took place at Monterrey in 1992, Cure take so many years to come and this concert was a total chaos, soldout, extremely heat,40,000 people went mad when Cure got to stage.

2)12 long years after this show for the first time Cure at Mexico City, 3 in a row 20,0000 seats soldouts, breaking records of the fastest ticket selling, the first of this 3 dates soldout in less than 10 minutes.

Bunch of fans slept outside the ticket sales places for getting the best seats.

Look for a Faith video of the second night were thousands of lighters on and on to the drum beat, i swear the faces of them expressed, "i can´t believe that"

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=wbX_XMqyzII

    Hang on to 2.10 min

The 3 nights we sung as loud that the music and voice almost been unhearable.

3)October 2007, almost the same as 2004, 3 concerts in a row, and we just want more.

I think the main reason because The Cure always give us their best is simply as they receive the same.

Not too much countries love The Cure as we do.

Nowadays,Mexico is the few places where The Cure surely will have souldouts and added shows because the demand of tickets.

We only have had 8 concerts in 30 years of Cure career !!!

Smith and Co. know that, so we deserve the best....

    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  70. i was just about to chime in on "Club America" as my least favorite Cure song, until Mikeyg reminded me of the existence of "Dredd Song." i had repressed memory of that turd, tyvm.

    OK, 10 favorites:

The Same Deep Water as You
    A Strange Day
    All Cats are Grey
From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea
    Faith
    Sinking
    Prayers for Rain
    Bloodflowers
    The Drowning Man
    Burn

All I Want and The Exploding Boy get honorable mention

    The Worst:

    Dredd Song
    Club America
    Speak My Language
    Dressing Up
    Wendy Time
    Round & Round & Round
    Never
    Never Enough
    Meathook
    The Empty World

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'll have to agree that Round & Round & Round is one of their worst songs. This song, along with Us or Them, are the only two songs I skip when listening to Cure albums. And I'm quite easy to please as a Cure fan.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Why is seeing a list of songs on a bit of paper so ridiculously exciting?! I don't know why, but it is; I've just been staring at that thing avidly for what certainly feels like hours.

I love the ominousness of the little "New Song" section; very exciting =)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks monkeybutt.

Also is there a studio version of Forever or am I just being stupid?

    ReplyDelete
  74. *bludgeons sofia*

mad bob: Of course Mexico DESERVES the best setlists! I totally agree, given the scarcity of Cure concerts there. I was just sayin' that Robert nees to have the best setlists everywhere, that's all.
:-) But I understand the reasoning behind playing so many gems since he rarely comes there.

    ReplyDelete
  75. There actually _is_ a studio version of Forever, albeit not a proper "album" one. They recorded one for a stance of the John Peel Sessions in 1981, alongside with Holy Hour, All Cats Are Grey and Primary.
(Just found an interesting link from the BBC about that, you might want to check it:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/johnpeel/sessions/
    1980s/1981/Jan07thecure/
    - you may need to manually join the parts of the link)
It's quite an odd tune, but i really like it :)

  76. Top 10 Worst Songs:
    Dressing Up

    WTF?!!?!

    The Worst:
    The Empty World

    WTF?!?!

    Stop with the crack, people!

Next you will put "New Day" in there as well, I guess.. Oh, I'd kill to hear that live!

    ReplyDelete
  77. And there was me naively praying for Burn to have been slipped in there. Oh well I guess I can dream right?

    ReplyDelete
  78. The Big Hand.
    The Big Hand.
    THE BIG HAND!

I want to fast forward life to June 20/21 right now.

    ReplyDelete
  79. LOL...SO FUNY AH!!

SORRY, BUT "THE BIG HAND" IS JUST FOR MEXICAN FANS...LOL!!!!

JUST KIDDING, YOU SHOULD CROSS YOUR FINGERS AS WE DO, PRAY THE LORD AND YOU'LL SURELY WOULD HAVE A GREAT MEXICAN SET!!! OR, COME TO MEXICO NEXT TIME CURE COMES!!! LOL!!... WISH THEY WERE HERE, YOURE SO LUCKY AS WELL, DONT BE SAD... JUST CROSS YOUR FINGERS DEARS.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I see it runs up to new song #13. So probably that's how many tracks the new CD will count.
    Come Christmas ...

    ReplyDelete
  81. How in the hell did Crowbiwan get a shot of this list? That's pretty sweet. Lots of songs I'd love to see on here, but I always seem to get the Greatest Hits Popfest when I see them.

Here's one more vote for THE HOLY HOUR...also...SAME DEEP WATER AS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Hello. Another long time lurker wanting to comment on worst/best song.

Mikey took my pic. I think Dredd Song is the worst thing they've ever committed to tape. After Wish, followed by the beautiful non-album tracks Burn and Purple Haze (which I like both Cure versions) they release Dredd Song? As Mikey said, Dreddful indeed! No wonder some Cure fans had a hard time accepting Jason as drummer. His intro to fans was on this atrocity.

As for best song, it's not my all time favorite, but I think that Before Three is one of the most underrated Cure songs ever. I've always felt that it is to the self-titled album what Deep Green Sea is to Wish. Classic melodic bassline and powerful lyrics. Maybe I just like the lyrics because I'm pushing 40, but damn. I'd love to see that song get put in rotation.

Anyway, just my two cents worth.

    ReplyDelete
  83. the song that everyone hates that i actually sort of like: 'dredd song.'

yeah, i know. it's a bad re-write of 'fight' (i would LOVE to hear 'fight' live!) but something about it is so anthemic, i just really dig it. the guitar is really quite lovely...

but how anybody can say 'dressing up' and 'the empty world' are in their worst list is beyond me. i was listening to the top this morning, and i forgot how great an album it is...

    ReplyDelete
  84. I seriously don't know if I could choose a top 10...but I'll try:

The Same Deep Water As You
    Fascination Street
    Disintegration
From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea
    The Figurehead
    Holy Hour
    Watching Me Fall
If Only Tonight We Could Sleep
    Drowning Man
    Faith

I feel dirty leaving off 100 Years, A Forest, 10:15 Saturday Night, The Kiss, Prayers for Rain, Plainsong, Lovesong, Last Dance (nobody mentions this song, but I love it!) Open, Want, Out of This World, Where the Birds Always Sing

    Worst 10?

    Never
    Just Say Yes
    Dredd Song
    Us or Them
    Lost
    Round & Round & Round
    Club America
    Screw
    The Snakepit
    (I Don't Know What's Going) On

    ReplyDelete
  85. ok, here's my worst. best is too hard to decide. maybe later.

    **

    -never
    -the promise
    -us or them
    -fake
    -alt.end
    -gone
    -this is a lie
    -club america

Push...its my cell ring tone!!! LOL.

The Big Hand, my daugther favorite bc I play it that much...B)

JUST LIKE HEAVEN...well its name describes it itself...my long time favorite song in the whole world...lovely, sweet, sad, BEAUTIFUL.

How Beautiful you are... description in itself.

All I want... pure love, fills my heart.

I would go on and on...describing every song...the only thing I can say, is that they are brilliant and the sountrack of our life.

Thank God for the music, for the good one!!! LOL.
